Touched by an Alien
Series:  Katherine “Kitty” Katt
Author:  Gini Koch
Publisher: DAW
Pages:  389
Format: Paperback
Source: Library

Reason chosen:

A blog that I subscribe to sent out an e-mail about the series and after reading Obsidian I felt like taking a break from my normal reads and hitting up some books about aliens.

Summary taken from Goodreads:

How can a sexy marketing manager join forces with an Alpha Centauri male in Armani to save the planet-using hairspray, a Mont Blanc pen, and rock n' roll?

She's Touched by an Alien

Marketing manager Katherine "Kitty" Katt steps into the middle of what appears to be a domestic dispute turned ugly. And it only gets uglier when the man turns into a winged monster, straight out of a grade-Z horror movie, and goes on a killing spree. Though Kitty should probably run away, she springs into action to take the monster down.

In the middle of the chaos a handsome hunk named Jeff Martini appears, sent by the "agency" to perform crowd control. He's Kitty's kind of guy, no matter what planet he's from. And from now on, for Kitty, things are going to be sexy, dangerous, wild, and out of this world.

Well let’s just put this out there. This is not a teen book or maybe even a young adult book. This is straight up an adult book. There are some serious sex scenes in here. Be warned.
That set aside, they were some hot, hot, hot sex scenes. And some seriously hot men. I can’t blame Kitty for being confused and wanting to be apart of this world.
This book is along the lines of Men in Black but with a female heroine and at first I thought it was a big rip off of Men in Black (with some differences). I guess in a way it is and actually does refer to the movies a few time but there is enough differences between the two that you forget all about it a couple of chapters in. Mainly that is Jeff Martini making you forget. He is a charmer. Oddly enough you would think that a book with such a large number of pages would make you go through the book slowly anticipating that some areas were going to drag a bit. My eyes bulged out a bit when I saw it, but oddly enough the pace was perfect. I sat down and read these 389 pages in 24 hours, including some time at work, and found that they provided you with so many questions and so many answers that you weren’t dragged through anything and never felt like it was going slowly. On the contrary a fight scene that could and does last over 5 chapters felt perfectly paces, perfectly explained. Instead of just saying, “they took the alien down” they actually explain how they did it and bring you along for the ride. And they did not provide anything unrealistic like it only took one person to put it down. No the fact is it required the entire team to take down each alien. Perhaps it sounds weird they way I’ve explained it but if you read it you would understand, And although they give a lot of information you are never really bombarded with information you just end up going through the thinking process with Kitty. Overall this book was adventurous, sexy, interesting, and a change of pace from my usual reads.

Katherine “Kitty” Katt: If the name doesn’t give it away then I will spell it out loud. She is feisty like a cat, not to mention picks up on things easily therefore is observant, and is pretty smart and quick thinking. Not to mention that she realizes what has to be done and is willing to do things for the greater good…even when they seem stupid.

Christopher: Broody. Snarky. Sarcastic. I like him. Good man

Jeff Martini: Sexy bad boy. Know what he wants (A.K.A Kitty… you get that when he asks her to marry him within the first five chapters). He looks good in an Armani suit, and without. He’s pushy in a good way.

James Reader: Gay. Ex-male model. Driver. Awesome.

The only thing I can think of is that the banter that goes on between the characters (not to mention the stuff that we are privy to that Kitty keeps in her mind) during a large epic moment or climatic even/fight is a little unrealistic. If you were ranging 5 large aliens and trying to wrangle them into a group and you found that a John Mayor song or some other random song guys usually hate sooths the savage beast would you really be complaining and being sarcastic about it. No, no you wouldn’t. But then again this is fantasy.

Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):

Overall I found the writing very easy to follow. I also find the banter, sarcastic comments, or basically anything that comes out of Jeff’s mouth awesome and funny. The events did not drag on, nor was I over flowed with information and I was actually surprised at the connections that Kitty could make that I did not, not to mention there were some good twist and turns. Overall I’ve already started reading the next one and I’m glad there are 5 books in the series because so far, I like this series.
