Review: Don't Mess With Texas by Christie Craig

Don’t Mess with Texas
Series:  Hotter in Texas
Author:  Christie Craig
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Pages: 464
Format: ebook
Source: Purchased

Reason chosen:

It was recommended to me a long time ago and the cover caught my eye

Summary taken from Chapters/

Nikki Hunt thought her night couldn''t get worse when her no-good, cheating ex ditched her at dinner, sticking her with the bill. Then she found his body stuffed in the trunk of her car and lost her two-hundred-dollar meal all over his three-thousand-dollar suit. Now not only is Nikki nearly broke, she''s a murder suspect.

Former cop turned PI, Dallas O''Connor knows what it''s like to be unjustly accused. But one look at the sexy-though skittish-suspect tells him she couldn''t hurt anyone. The lead detective, Dallas''s own brother, has the wrong woman and Dallas hopes a little late-night "undercover" work will help him prove it . . .

Again! Finally! Another romance novel that is not simply revolve around sex. There is some actualy romance and some actual story lines. And better yet you think its all going to be about Dallas and Nikki. Nope the story is told from the point of view of two couples Dallas and Nikki and Tony and Leann, which just makes it all the better. The involves some serious crime including murder, attempted murder and so many other things. And of course Dallas is the sexy P.I. but he has some history about him a bit of his past that makes him have the tough exterior. Love it. And then there is Tony and LeAnn. Man do I love their story. This romance is definitely one that I didn’t mind reading and found that things were not covered in heat or sex (well mostly) but there were many issues that needed to be dealt with other than their own emotion feels and urges.

Dallas: Love his background story. He’s sexy and I want more

Tony: Dallas’ brother. Also sexy. What’s even sexier? This man is determined to get the woman that he loves back. He knows what he wants and he does what he needs to do to get it back. Sometimes I thought I would choose Tony over Dallas. Its almost blasphemy.

Nikki and LeAnn: both strong women who try to be independent and for some reason are afraid to open up.

Sometimes I was bit confused by all the crime solving going on. Mainly because there are multiple cases being solved.

Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):

Overall I loved the writing style, even though sometimes it was a bit confusing but there many amusing characters, many amusing situations, some you wanted to just cringe at, and the writing melded a romance novel and crime fiction together so well.

After one or two seconds, she squared her shoulders and mentally pulled up her big girl panties

As they walked outside, Dallas looked at Tyler. “I’ll give you a thousand dollars to never repeat that. But if you do tell anyone you touched my ass, I will shoot you.”
“Please,” Tyler said. “You know me better than that.” Reaching the car, Tyler continued, “It would have to at least be ten thousand. And you might as well load your gun.”

“I hate it when you do that!” Nikki dropped her head on the table. “When I do what?” Ellen asked. “Make sense.”
