Reason chosen:

I came across this book on someone’s blog and they said it was like Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. And I mean come on, check out that cover.

Summary taken from Goodreads:

Sean (Right-Hook) Reilly knows a few things about himself. One, he's the middle-weight boxing champion of the world with an undefeated record. Two, women find his cocky persona, chiseled biceps, and inked body sexy. Also, the fact that it's known that he doesn't do relationships only adds to his sex appeal. And three, he's Irish, proud of it, and a member of the Braithreachas Don Saol, a branch of the Irish mafia and king pins of the drug cartel taking over the streets of Cleveland.

Connor Doyle(aka Connie) the boss and leader of the Braithreachas Don Saol, has been like a father to Sean, taking him under his wing and teaching him how to survive on the streets after the death of his parents. Sean has never been ungrateful, but has always wanted one thing...

More. More to live for. More to fight for. More to believe in. A chance at a future without drugs or guns. A chance at a future without wondering which day will be his last.

There's only one problem with that. You live by the braithreachas. You die by the braithreachas. And Sean knows whether Connie considers him to be family or not, the only way he'll be leaving the braithreachas is in a body bag.

Hadlee Flax has had a year to overcome her issues. After almost being raped and brutalized, she's putting her best foot forward, seeing a therapist, and has even(with some persuasion from her best friend, Lara) enrolled in self defense classes. And she's doing well moving on with her life until she meets the dark, and conflicted Irish boxing champion of the world, Sean Reilly.

Hadlee is immediately drawn to the gorgeous, cold, and mysterious man who speaks with a slight Irish brogue. She soon learns that there is much more to him than his darkened gaze, cool demeanor, and body covered in tattoos. He's not the type of man she thought he was. And Hadlee finds herself doing something she never thought she would do in the last year...

Falling for a guy.

Falling for Sean Reilly. A man who is on the path to becoming a boxing legend.

One thing Hadlee doesn't know is the other part of Seans' life. His life of drug running, and killing. Or the fact that when he's not boxing he's walking the streets with a gat tucked into the back of his loose jeans, and glancing over his shoulder at every turn.

But it doesn't take Hadlee long to learn that some attractions and relationships can be fatal.

And sometimes...

They just might be worth fighting for.

This YA/New Adult read was a knockout. Blown off my feet, and I’m completely head over heels for Sean Reilly. But really who wouldn’t be? He is a boxing champion that is proud of his hometown and Irish heritage, and he does everything to give his little sister a better life. *Queue the tears and awes. This book is just one of those really good messed up books. I was originally informed that it was like Beautiful Disaster and, although it’s very different, it has the same feel about it and same sort of Alpha male character. But there are many things that are different—in some ways its more intense. There is the Irish Mofia, drugs, killings, violence…I couldn’t put it down. I wouldn’t say this book is for the young adult genre because, even though their characters are 19-22, there is a lot of violence, a lot of sexual content, a lot of mature language, and over all a lot of crime that is going on. And what happens to Hadlee, and how messed up she is…oh god it was so good! Man, oh man, will I be waiting patiently for the next book to come out. This was a whirlwind of a novel. It may have been short, but was it ever sweet. And, it leaves quite a cliffhanger promising the second book to be just as good as the first. If you haven’t read this book yet…go get it.

Hadlee—pushing through what happened to her and trying to make a better more normal life for herself. A true role model for any of those that have had something like that happen to them

Sean—Cocky, and I believe the song “Sexy and I know It” was written for him. But, he does everything for a reason…for family and is trying to better his life.

It was too short! I want more.

Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):

Overall this book was mind-blowing. The writing was well done, and even though there isn’t that much humour in it, the seriousness of the subject pulls at your heart as your read it almost like you were right there watching everything happen. In my opinion I would say that the story line is pretty unique as I haven’t read that many novels that had so many serious subjects all rolled into one. I will be waiting not-so patiently for the next book to come out. It was so good that I couldn’t even read the sneak peek for the next novel because I knew it would be me too riled up.

“It’s like something goes off inside of you. Something similar to a nuclear bomb and you can’t help but want to protect your beauty. Love her. Caress her gently. Be a different man with her.”

  1. Wonderful review! Thank you for the recommendation! I loved Beautiful Disaster, so I am sure that I will love this one also. :)
    And Sean sounds yummy. ;)

  2. When will 13 rounds come out?

    1. That is a good question. At the back of the first novel it said Nov 2012, but its the end of November and nothing yet. I checked her website and I can't even find anything about 12 Rounds on there let alone 13 rounds. Nothing on Goodreads either. I can't wait for it and I hope it comes out soon!

    2. Just informed that 13 Rounds is coming out in January
