Summary taken from Goodreads:

In a tale of strong ties and true love, Maya’s trilogy comes to its stunning conclusion, as the youngest McCabe brother uses sword and seduction to save his clan—and seal his heart.

Caelen McCabe’s young, reckless heart nearly destroyed his clan. Now putting family loyalty above all else, he steps up to marry his older brother’s jilted bride and salvage the uneasy alliance between two clans. While beautiful Rionna McDonald is a fit wife for any man, Caelen trusts no woman, especially not this sweet temptress who torments him with white hot longing.

As the sacrificial lamb in her father’s power game, Rionna will do her duty but protect her heart and her pride from another man’s humiliation. Despite everything, the heat in Caelen’s touch melts her defenses and she craves the sensual delights of a husband who guards his emotions as fiercely as his clan. But when the ultimate battle for the McCabe legacy is upon them, Rionna’s true warrior spirit emerges. She will risk the wrath of her father, the fury of her enemies, and her life to prove to Caelen that his wife’s love is too precious to lose.

Review:

Now we are getting back to it! Although I didn’t like the second in the series as much as the first this one has really stepped up! I loved the almost love hate romance that is going on between Caelen and Rionna. And, I love Rionna! She is a female warrior and breaks all the traditions! The other girls in series were all very determined and somewhat independent, but they weren’t the type to literally wear some armor and fight for the their clan and husband on the battlefield. That is why Rionna becomes my favourite of them all. And, she know what she wants. If she wants her husband she gets him, and if she wants to train with the men, she gets it. Although historically the only person like this was Joan of Arc I am still very happy that Maya Banks wrote characters like Caelen and Rionna. I was smiling throughout Caelen’s and Rionna’s seduction of each other especially when one second they were yelling at each other then kissing, or kissing then yelling...that was fun too. The novel brings a close to the series that I almost wish didn’t happen. I know Maya Banks had to move on from the brothers, but hopefully in the future she might come back and write the story of their children.

Good:

Caelen--Strong, stubborn, loyal, hard and just trying to make up for his past

Rionna--determined to fight with and for her clan. She’s exactly like Caelen--loyal, stubborn and strong.

Bad:

Some slow parts but nothing that deter from the plot, and it tied everything together in a pretty bow.

Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):

Overall the writing style was easy to follow, the story was filled with adventure and romance. There was great characters, and each of the previous main characters also made appearances and had roles to play. Although some parts were slow the story carried pretty quickly overall. I’m sad to see this series come to an end, but luckily Maya Banks has another highlander series!
